THE CHAMPIONSHIP in the annual swimming competition, organized by Wellawatta Kinross Swimming Club was won by Sri Lanka Army in addition to the ‘N.G Sirimanne’ Memorial Trophy, awarded for the 1st place in the event.
The Army swimming team that competed in the 6 mile long swim included eleven male swimmers and one woman swimmer. The only woman soldier in the competition clinched the 3rd place in the women’s category. Following Army swimmers showed their colours and achieved leading places in the event.
Trooper T.K.S Weerakkody 3 SLAC (1st Place), Lieutenant L.R.K Peiris 5 SLSR (V) (2nd Place), Private W.V Kumara 3 SLASC (4th Place), Riffle man T.H.K.S.I De Silva 6 SLSR (5th Place), Private R.P.P.P Rajapakse SLAOC (6th Place) , Lance Corporal K.G.S Bandaranayake 9 SLSR (7th Place), Private E.A Nandapala 5 GR (v) (8th Place), Private R.N.P Piyarathna 4 SLASC (9th Place), Lance Corporal S.S Nimal Rathna 3 SLAC (12th Place), Private H.M.H.W Herath 4 SLASC (14th Place) and Riffleman W.A.K.A.L Dhanushka 8 SLSR (15th Place).
Private R.W.D De Soyza 4 SLAWC, the only woman swimmer got the 3rd Place.
