Army Boxers Top in the DSG Boxing Tournament

Sri Lanka Army boxers performed exceptionally well during the Defence Services Games (DSG) Boxing Tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Army at the Sri Lanka Army Gymnasium in Panagoda during July 12-13.

During the tournament, Army male boxers clinched 08 Gold and 02 Silver medals out of 10 events and became Champions in the Men’s category while Army female boxers ended up as joint-Champions with the Sri Lanka Air Force after equally securing 02 Gold medals, 01 Silver medal and 01 Bronze medal out of a total of four events.

Lance Corporal R.M.P Darmasena of Sri Lanka Engineers was awarded the Best Boxer in the Men’s category and the Best Loser award in the women’s category was presented to Private M.G.M.T Dhasunika of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps.

Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division and Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Boxing Committee, together with Air Vice Marshal O.A.N.S Fernando, Chairman of Sri Lanka Air Force Boxing Committee graced the final day as Chief Guests and gave away certificates and trophies to the winners.

Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director Sports, Colonel A.K.D Adikari USP, Secretary to Sri Lanka Army Boxing Committee, Senior Tri-Service Officers, Officers and Other Ranks witnessed the tournament.

Below 49 kg (Men) - Lance Corporal H.M.L.P Jayawardena (SLA) - Gold Medal

Below 52 kg (Men) - Lance Corporal R.M.P Darmasena (SLE) - Gold Medal

Below 56 kg (Men) - Lance Corporal P.A.R Prasanna (VIR) - Gold Medal

Below 56 kg (Men) - Sergeant R.M.P.K.K Rathnayake (VIR) - Gold Medal

Below 81 kg (Men) - Lance Corporal Y.S.P Sudamma (SLCMP) - Gold Medal

Below 91 kg (Men) - Corporal P.A.R.S Rupasinghe (VIR) - Gold Medal

Over 91 kg (Men) - Staff Sergeant A.R.B.E Thilakarathna (SLASC) - Gold Medal

Below 51 kg (Women) - Corporal S.H Priyadarshani (SLAWC) - Gold Medal

Below 57 kg (Women) - Second Lieutenant B.D.R Mendis (SLAWC) - Gold Medal

Below 75 kg (Men) - Corporal W.A.R Sadakelum (VIR) - Silver Medal
