Army Boxers Outbox Island-wide Boxers & Carry Championship

Sri Lanka Army boxers outboxed all their island-wide counterparts from 15 boxing teams and carried away the overall novice Boxing Championship in the Sri Lanka National Boxing Tournament, held at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium during Dec 9 - 13.

Men and Women’s ‘Novice’ Boxing Meet was conducted by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (ABA) with the participation of 142 boxers (men and women) of 15 sports clubs.

Boxers from Sri Lanka Army secured, 3 championships in 3 weight categories and 3 runners-up in 3 more weight categories and marked victory. In women’s category, woman boxers claimed championship in one weight class and three third places in 3 more weight classes.

Sri Lanka Army boxers, Private R.M.P Dharmasena, Private A.P.C.A Jayalath, Lance Corporal A.R.B.A Thilakaratne and woman boxer, Private T.M Weerasinghe bagged championship trophies.

Sergeant M.A Divaratne, Lance Corporal A.P.G Chandrakumara and Gunner J.P.N.N Jayaweera received runner-up trophies in 3 other weight classes.
