Army Boxers Clinch the 96th National Boxing Championship 2023

The 96th National Boxing Championship 2023 got underway at Colombo Royal College indoor stadium from 13-17 January 2024 with the participation of 151 boxing contenders, hailing from 17 clubs across the island, including representative teams from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police.

In a spectacular display of prowess, the Sri Lanka Army Men's Boxing Team emerged victorious, clinching the championship in the Men's category. Their remarkable performance secured an impressive tally of 10 Gold, 06 Silver, and 10 Bronze medals during the event, earning the trophy of the 'Most Successful Boxing Club in the Year,'.

Adding a significance to the event, the Sri Lanka Army Women's Boxing Team earned recognition as the Runner-up in the Women's category. Their commendable performance resulted in 02 Gold, 05 Silver, and 01 Bronze medal, showcasing the skills of female boxers in the Sri Lanka Army.

Corporal K.G.C Padmasiri of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps awarded as the Best Boxer in the Men's category while Privet M.G.M.T Dasunika of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps secured the Best Looser of the Women’s Category.

General G.D.H. Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, graced the awarding Ceremony as Chief Guest adding a prestige to the event. Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Chairman of the Army Boxing Committee, along with several Senior Officers, witnessed the intense matches that unfolded during the exhilarating championship.
