Army Blind Cricketer Receives a New House from Minister

Hon. Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Housing and Construction as a special tribute to the invaluable contribution of visually-impaired War Hero, Staff Sergeant J.P.D Ravindra of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) who has sacrificed his future for the defence of the motherland during battles against LTTE terrorists in Puthukkuddiyirippu, gifted a new house during a simple ceremony organized at the Ministry of Housing and Construction this morning (9).

A few days ago, Hon Minister Premadasa by inviting the Staff Sergeant J.P.D Ravindra as the Guest of Honour during the opening of the ‘Siyanethugama Housing Complex’ dedicated for 29 visually handicapped in the Hambantota district, promised the Staff Sergeant J.P.D Ravindra a new house in Colombo.

Staff Sergeant J.P.D Ravindra serving at the Ranaviru Sevana in Ragama under the Directorate of Rehabilitation of the Army Headquarters who is also the Vice Captain of the National Blind Cricket team and Captain of the blind cricket team of Ranaviru Seva Sports Club received the keys for a new house at Angulana Housing Complex as pledge by the Hon Minister in Hambantota a few days ago.

The blind cricketer, Staff Sergeant J.P.D Ravindra lost his vision after explosion of a terrorist mortar which claimed several lives of his fellow comrades in Puthukkuddiyirippu in the year 2009 during the peak of battles against the LTTE.

Ministry officials, Brigadier Shantha Thirunaukarisu, Director Rehabilitation and Several Senior Officers of the Army were present during the ceremony of Ministry at the Ministry of Housing.
