Army Blind Cricketer, Guest of Honour at State Ceremony in Ranminithenna

The visually-impaired War Hero, Staff Sergeant J.P.D Ravindra of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) who sacrificed his future for the sake of the motherland during battles against LTTE terrorists in Puthukkuddiyirippu was once again honoured in a fitting state ceremony at Ranminithenna, Thissamaharama this morning (6) by inviting him to be the Guest of Honour during the opening of the ‘Siyanethugama Housing Complex’ dedicated for 29 visually handicapped in the Hambantota district.

Staff Sergeant J.P.D Ravindra who is also the Vice Captain of the National Blind Cricket team and Captain of the blind cricket team of Ranaviru Seva Sports Club has been invited to be the Guest of Honour in the ceremony by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Housing and Construction as a special tribute to the invaluable contribution he has made for the defence of the country when humanitarian operations were at their peak in the year 2009.

He lost his vision after explosion of a terrorist mortar which claimed several lives of his fellow comrades in Puthukkuddiyirippu.

Hon. Minister Premadasa has also assured the War Hero with a new house at Angulana Housing Complex.

Several Senior Officers of the Army were present at this ceremony in Ranminithenna.
