The Army Centre for Disaster Response Training (ACDRT) at Atabage, Gampola joined hands with respective Urban Council, Road Development Authority and other employees to clear a sewage water blockage with waste elements at Nawalapitiya town on Wednesday (17).
The drains due to torrential rains became clogged as gushing rainy waters and adverse weather conditions carried waste elements and blocked the passage of rain water inside all major rains. That affected the water pumping and purification station at Hanngran oya, compelling Water Board to seek assistance from the Army.
The Commandant, ACDRT immediately responded to the request after the need was projected to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage by relevant authorities in Gampola. Accordingly, the Director Operations of the Army Headquarters instructed ACDRT to assist the project.
