Araly Point Commemorates Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa & Accompanying War Heroes

The Araly Point Monument in Kayts on Tuesday (8 August) recalled the undying memories of the country’s one of the finest legendary military leaders, Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc and several other military War Heroes who laid their lives in an LTTE landmine blast at Araly Point on 8 August 1992.

The Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc and Senior Tri Service Officers joined the 31st death anniversary commemoration at the monument, organized under supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division, Major General S.W.B Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndu.

The day’s proceedings commenced with a two-minute silence observed in honour of fallen War Heroes. The day’s Chief Guest, Jaffna Commander afterwards placed a floral wreath and saluted the memory of all fallen veterans.

Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, accompanied by a team of military commanders, including Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne, Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, Colonel H.P Stephen, Colonel G.H Ariyaratne, Colonel Y.N Palipana, Commander Asanga Lankathilaka, Lieutenant Colonel Nalin de Alwis, Lieutenant Commander C.B Wijepura and Corporal W.J Wickremarathne fell victim to an LTTE landmine blast while they were on a military assignment in Araly, Jaffna.

The Commander Forward Maintenance Area - North, Brigadier Admin and Quartering and Brigadier Coordination (Volunteer), SFHQ - Jaffna, Brigade Commanders, Deputy Area Commander of Sri Lanka Navy, Senior Tri Service Officers and troops participated representing all those War Heroes.
