Annual VIR Inter Battalion Athletic Meet - 2018 Best Trophy Goes to 23 VIR Athletes

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment’s (VIR) Inter Battalion Athletic Championship-2018 got underway during July 03 - 05 at VIR ground, Boyagane.

The opening ceremony of the tournament on 03 July was graced by Brigadier W.S Ariyasinghe, Centre Commandant, VIR Regimental Headquarters as the Chief Guest who lit the Olympic lamp and read out the oath for Athletes and Referees to mark the formal opening.

More than 430 athletes from 25 battalions, including those in the Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) battalion competed in the 3-day tournament.

The closing ceremony of the tournament on 5 July was headed by Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR and Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army as the Chief Guest who was also instrumental in stimulating the tournament.

5 Battalion VIR troops emerged the Champions in the tournament while the 18 VIR Battalion troops were pushed to be the runners-up. Athletes in 4 VIR won the 2nd runners-up slot.

The Chief Guest on the day gave away trophies to the winners. Private N. A. R. Karunathilake from 23 Battalion VIR clinched the Best Athlete of the meet title.
