The sacred placement of the pinnacle atop the re-constructed pagoda (stupa) at the historic Tissa Viharaya in Kankesanthurai got underway on Thursday (27) during a brief ceremony.
Major General D.B.S.N Bothota RWP RSP VSV USP psc, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna at the auspicious minute amidst reverberating ' 'Pirith' chanting of the Maha Sangha placed the pinnacle.
The Stupa was re-constructed under the guidance of Ven. Ginthota Nandarama Thero, Chief Incumbent at Tissa Viharaya following an intiative taken by the Jaffna Commander.
The history of the ancient Tissa Viharaya runs way back to the 3rd century AD as a Buddhist Vihara, built by King Devanampiyatissa.
The religious ceremony was dignified by the presence of the Maha Sangha, Officers, Other Ranks and devotees. The construction of this stupa was completed with the unstinting efforts of the troops of the Security Forces in Jaffna.
