All Set for Year's Most Thrilling 'Gajaba Supercross'


The 13th edition of the thrilling ‘Gajaba Supercross - 2014’, one of the most popular events in the motor racing calendar with both local and foreign riders, is to bring excitement at Anuradhapura Saliyapura Supercross track on Sunday (August 31).
 
A Press Conference at Nelum Pokuna, headed by Major General S.W.L Daulagala, Colonel of the Regiment, Gajaba Regiment (GR) on Tuesday (5) evening said that the forthcoming spectacular Gajaba Supercross with more than 26 events, including the ones for children, is to be competed by more than 200 reputed motor racing drivers and motor cycle riders.
 
With the collaboration of Sri Lanka Autosports Drivers Association (SLADA), the mammoth annual tournament which is meant to generate funds for promotion of infrastructure and welfare facilities of both disable War Heroes and those still serving, expects to draw massive crowds and stage most thrilling events such as SL-GT Cars (up to 3500cc), SL-N Standard Cars (up to 1300cc), SL-N Ford Laser/Mazda (up to 1500cc), Group MX - Motorcross Bikes (125cc - 250cc), Group SL - A Mini 7 (1000cc), Group MX - Forces Motorcross Bikes Event (125cc), etc in this CEAT - SLADA Partnership Championship - 2014, the Media was told.
 
Flanked by GR veteran, Major General Chagi Gallage, Mr Yoga Perera, Chairman, Autoland and SLADA, Mr Deepthi Lokuarachchi, Chief Executive Officer, Sri Lanka Insurance (main sponsor of the event), Mr Dusty Alahakoon, Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific Brewery Lanka Limited (sub sponsor) and Mr Ravi Dadlani, Vice President, CEAT, the Chair at the Press Conference, Major General Daulagala outlined the history of the event and remembered the founder Major General W.D.G.A Gunasekara, then Colonel of the Regiment, GR and Mr Hans Ralf, Former President, SLADA.
 
It is expected that Mr Santhosh, a veteran and popular racing icon from India will also take part in the ‘Gajaba Supercross - 2014’ as he did in the past years, Mr Yoga Perera said in response to a media query.
 
At the same occasion, the main sponsor, Sri Lanka Insurance and other co-sponsors, CEAT, Sri Lankan Airlines, Asia Pacific Brewery Lanka Limited, Coca Cola and a few other co-sponsors presented their sponsorship cheques symbolically to the Colonel of the Regiment, GR Major General S.W.L Daulagala.
 
These drivers and riders in the event who would reach top positions with maximum points carry cash gifts, worth millions together with trophies and shields.
 
The one who secured the highest number of points for best driving is to be awarded the ‘W.D.G.A Gunasekara Rolling Trophy’ award as the ‘Best Driver’ in the tournament. Similarly, the ‘Hans Ralf Rolling Trophy’ is to be awarded to the Best Rider who would snatch the highest points from motorbike events.
 
Two special motorcycle racing events for young enthusiasts below 10, 13 and 16 years of age will also rob the attention of the spectators and all those races are to be judged by veterans and experts in SLADA.
