An all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting to invoke religious blessings on the new Army Headquarters at Sri J’pura, got underway Friday (8) evening under the auspices of the Maha Sangha, led by Most Ven Dr Ittaepane Sri Dhammalankara Thero, Mahanayake of Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha.
Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army was there to offer the traditional tray of betel symbolically to the Maha Sangha inviting them to begin chanting until the following morning (9). A brief Anushasana (oration) by the Mahanayake Thero spoke of the value of having a such new combined complex for security coordination of the country and the services, being rendered by security forces for the best interests of the Nation.
The offer of ‘Heel Danna’ (breakfast) to the monks the following morning at the same venue culminated the day’s proceedings at the New Army HQ.
