With the objective of assisting students who are expected to appear for the forthcoming G.C.E A/L exam 2018 in August, troops of the 224 Brigade under the aegis of the 22 Division and the SFHQ-East launched a two-day seminar at Muttur AI Hidaya Maha Vidyalaya during 17 - 18 July.
Organized on the instructions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 22 Division Headquarters, Major General Aruna Jayasekara, the arrangement was fully supported by the Director, Zonal Education Office in Muttur and the 224 Brigade Commander.
The students in their customary way welcomed the General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, Director, Zonal Education Office and other invitees on arrival before they joined lighting of the traditional oil lamp to mark the commencement of the event. A welcome note, delivered by Mr S.S.M Iqbal, Deputy Director Zonal Education Office, explained the motive behind the project and its importance to candidates.
Mr A.M.L Sadakh BA (Hons) and Mr M.M Isharm, well experienced teachers in the East conducted the seminar discussing target questions in Arts and Commerce streams where around 185 students from 6 schools in the District took part.
Religious observances were also conducted by priests in Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic faiths before inauguration. 24 Sri Lanka National Guard troops in the area contributed to the event by providing transport and refreshments to the students.
Religious dignitaries, Commandant, Army School of Logistics, Brigadier Deepal Wanniarachchi, 224 Brigade Commander, Colonel Prasanna Ediriweera, Deputy Director Zonal Education Office Muttur, Mr S.S.M Iqbal, Senior Officers, OIC Muttur Police Station, representatives of the Department of Education and leading citizens attended the inaugural occasion of the seminar.
