9 SLSR Troops Give Permanent Relief to Another Deserving Family in Paranthan

The Army's dedication for the best interests of the local civilians was proved once again in Mullaittivu on 10 November when 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 571 Brigade in the 57 Division under the Security Force Headquarters -Mullaittivu erected one more new house to a needy family with children, resident in Korrakkankaddu, Paranthan area with funds made available by a retired Senior Officer of the Army.

The housing project as one more community-oriented responsibility got underway under the guidance of Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu and was supervised by Major General Chandimal Peiris, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division.

The coordination of Brigadier Chaminda Gamlath, Commander, 571 Infantry Brigade enabled the receipt of the sponsorship for the project through US-based Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Retd) and his friends who donated a sum of Rs 1.7 million for the erection of the new home for Mr Muniyandi Parthibhan, the father of the helpless family who was living in a shanty with children.

9 SLSR troops, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel R.V Dissanayake using their technical expertise and much-dedicated manpower constructed the house within weeks after the miserable living condition of the family was brought to the notice of the Army by respective state officials which in turn prompted the Army to take the initiative in this regard.

On Thursday (10 November 2022), Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu as the Chief Guest graced the new house-warming ceremony and handed over the keys of their new home to the family after unveiling a symbolic plaque and ribbon-cutting.

State Officials, Major General Chandimal Peiris, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Brigade Commanders of the 571, 572, and 573 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officer of 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Senior Officers and Other Ranks were present during the inaugural house-warming ceremony.
