One Officer and ten Other Ranks of the 8 Gemunu Watch under command to the 611 Infantry Brigade of the 61 Infantry Division under the Security Forces - West on Saturday (17) assisted in extinguishing a fast spreading bush-fire that broke out in the general forest area of Godakumbura in Balangoda due to winds and unknown reasons.
The timely assistance extended by the troops enabled the total control of its further spread and several volunteer groups too supported Army efforts. The Commanding Officer of the 8 Gemunu Watch, following the guidelines given by the 611 Brigade Commander, carried out the operation.
