7th Contingent at SRIMED Level 2 Hospital in South Sudan Marks its Completion of Tenure

The 7th UNMISS contingent at SRIMED Level 2 UN Hospital in Bor, South Sudan on the verge of their return home after their successful completion of the one-year mission period in the UN presented a military parade to its Contingent Commander on Friday (17).

During their one-year tenure, the SRIMED troops treated 1395 patients at the Out Patients’ Department (OPD), 171 warded patients and 314 patients at dental department, in addition to 48 surgeries and 22 medical evacuations, performed by SRIMED contingent.

Colonel D.R.S.A Jayamanna, Contingent Commander received the salute of the parade of his contingent members. The parade was commanded by Major W.G.L Jayarathne while Major K.M.S.T Kulathunga served as the parade 2IC. Company Sergeant Major was Warrant Officer 1 R.H.K.H Amarasooriya, and the parade drill instructor was Warrant Officer II S.P.W Premachandra.

During the Contingent Commander’s speech to the occasion, he appreciated the commitment and dedication of all troop members for smooth function of the Level- 2 hospital and its infrastructural development as well as the sound coordination, carried out with other UN personnel. He also shared valuable compliments and praised Colonel R.K.P Pushpakumara, Consultant General Physician, Colonel U.A.L.D Perera, Consultant Anaesthetist, Lieutenant Colonel Thilak Wijerathna, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Lieutenant Colonel Navartnam Jayanthan, Consultant General surgeon for their valuable contribution to maintain UN standards of health care and quality with patient safety at the United Nations Level 2 Hospital.

A tree planting programme and an All Rank lunch in the common dining area brought the one year anniversary commemoration to end.
