69th Independence Day Marked by Army Troops in Jaffna

Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) in Palaly and other formations in the Jaffna peninsula separately celebrated the 69th Independence Day at respective places on Saturday (4).

Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) hoisted the National Flag at the Palaly Headquarters premises and observed a two-minute silence to remember all fallen war heroes after the national anthem and the Army song were sung.

SFHQ-J giving prominence to public welfare concerns, a ‘Shramadana’ campaign cleaned the Tellippalai Base Hospital and its surroundings.

In the meantime, 55 Division Headquarters staged a Blood Donation programme in order to collect blood for patients at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital to mark the 69th Independence Day.

Organized by the Civil Coordinating officer with the support of Army personnel of 12 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Headquarters premises at Aiyyakachchi, the programme drew many blood donors of the Army. Medical assistance was given by members of the Jaffna Hospital, headed by Dr T Wishvethidan. During the campaign, 100 blood pints from 100 Army personnel were collected.

The campaign was held under the instructions of General Officer Commanding, 55 Division and Brigade Commander, 552 Brigade.

Meanwhile, another blood donation campaign, organized by the 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) was conducted in order to fulfill the blood requirement of the Jaffna hospital Blood Bank. Major General Mahesh Senanayaka, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) directed the project.

Lieutenant Colonel Roshan Jayamanna, Commanding Officer, 4 SLAMC and his troops arranged the event and a total of 110 soldiers in the Palaly Army Cantonment donated blood during the arrangement.

Dr P. Kalaichelvi and his staff in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital extended their assistance to hold this blood donation camp.
