682 Brigade Troops with Buddhist Monk's Support Offer Free Relief Packs to Civilians

A joint humanitarian project of reconciliation and ethnic harmony got underway for the benefit of civilians in Puthukudyirippu, Mullaittivu on Monday (12) at the request of Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces -Mullaittivu, thanks to the sponsorship, provided by Buddhist monks in the South.

Troops of the 682 Brigade under the 68 Division of the SFHQ-MLT with sponsorship provided by Ven Dr. Bellanwila Dhammarathana Nayake Thera, Adviser, Buddhist Library of Singapore, Chief Incumbent at Bellanwila Raja Maha Vihara and the incumbent, ‘Paaramitha ’ Meditation in Kadugannawa distributed a total of 125 dry ration packets among most deserving civilians as relief for economic burdens. Those packs contained rice, dhal, spices, soap, cereals, milk powder and it was coordinated by Ven Gawaragiriye Premarathana Thero, Chief Patron for Colombo Royal College's Buddhist Brotherhood Association.

Dr Bellanwilla Dhammarathana Thero during the distribution delivered a sermon and also thanked the Commander, Security Forces -Mullaittivu for organizing such a community-oriented programme.

The Commander of the Security Forces -Mullaitivu as the Chief Guest of the event distributed the first few relief parcels. Major General Rohan Ponnamperuma, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division, Brigadier Wasantha Paalamakumbura, Brigadier General Staff of the Security Forces Headquarters-Mullaittivu, Brigadier Chaminda Gallappaththi, 682 Brigade Commander and the gathering of beneficiaries took part in the relief project.
