Intending to further boost livelihood standards and generate income for low-income group families and fisher folk in Puthukkudiruppu area, the 68 Infantry Division HQ of the Security Force HQ-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) on Wednesday (23 August) released a shoal of some 2000 freshwater fish fingerlings to the Maruthamadu tank in Puthukkudyiruppu.
Troops of the 68 Infantry Division as per instructions given by Major General S. Kasthurimudali RSP ndc psc, General Officer Commanding, 68 Infantry Division in cooperation with the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), Kilinochchi branch made use of the LTTE terrorists' former Sea Tiger Diving Pool to breed the fingerlings before they were released.
Brigadier N.D.P Gunathunga, Commander, 681 Infantry Brigade and Colonel J.M.W.K Jayalath RWP RSP USP, Colonel General Staff of the 68 Infantry Division were present at the time of the release of those fish. Several aquaculture officials and members of village fishers' committee were also associated with the simple event.
