Brigadier Nalin Jayawardana of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry assumed duties as the 12th General Officer Commanding of the 66 Infantry Division, amidst religious blessings at the Division Headquarters in Pooneryn on Wednesday (07 December).
The new General Officer Commanding was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers on arrival and greeted to a Guard Turnout, presented by 20 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, troops at the entrance to the camp premises.
Thereafter, Brigadier Nalin Jayawardana symbolically placed his signature for an official document that marked his assumption of responsibilities amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by members of the Maha Sangha. Later on, he was invited to plant a sapling in the camp premises as a gesture of memory before he formally addressed the troops. Staff Officers and Other Ranks were also present during the arrangement.
He succeeds Major General Janaka Priyadarshana who just retired from the Army.
