651 Brigade’s Initiative Gets New House to Widow in Mulankavil

19 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops under the 651 Brigade under the 65 Division taking their own initiative recently constructed a new house for another needy family in Mulankavil, Wellankulam under the guidelines given by Major General Anil Samarasiri, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division and Brigadier Wasantha Bandara, Commander, 651 Brigade.

The project undertaken by Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops of the 651 Brigade found raw materials and other resources for construction of this house through their own initiatives with the help of several donors in the South.

Mrs Muththu Kumar Yaseeda, a widow leading a hand to mouth life with her daughter was without a proper house when her miserable plight was brought to the notice of 651 Brigade Commander who afterwards took up the challenge of building of new house in consultation with Major General Anil Samarasiri, GOC, 65 Division.

19 SLLI troops provided much-needed technical and engineering manpower assistance for the construction of the new house expeditiously under the supervision of the Commander of 651 Brigade within a very short period.

To coincide with the 72nd Army Anniversary, Brigadier Wasantha Bandara, 651 Brigade Commander handed over the keys to the new house during a simple ceremony that followed Hindu religious traditions.

On the same occasion during the house-warming, the day’s Chief Guest distributed 10 dry ration packets among the poor in the area in order to ease their economic burdens.

Commander, 651 Brigade, Brigadier Wasantha Bandara, Commanding Officer, 19 SLLI, Major K Asanka, Senior Officers, family members and troops who built the house were also present during the inaugural ceremony, adhering to health formalities.
