Sri Lanka Army troops of the 65 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) extending their helping hand on humanitarian grounds condoled with members of a bereaved family in Wellankulam, Manthai West and offered assistance for conduct of the funeral of Govinda Swami at Ganeshapuram, a few days ago.
On being informed by family members of the dead person, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division, Major General Sarath Weerawardhana, sent a team of Army personnel to the house of mourning under the close supervision of Brigadier Ranjith Abesinghe, Brigade Commander, 651 Brigade since the family was living in a state of poverty and had no means to conduct the funeral.
The family, living in abject poverty was offered meals and breakfast by the troops and steps were taken to provide cooked meals to more than 60 mourners attending the funeral since their economic constraints did not permit them to spend for extra meals.
In addition, Army personnel prepared refreshments at their own cost and served the visitors while the remains were lying at this home.
15 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops in this way offered their friendly services at that hour of grief.
