65 Division Troops with DS Funds Erect New Home for a Widow

With the aim of uplifting living standards and the well-being of needy civilians in the Madu area, technically-qualified troops of the Security Force Headquarters -Wanni (SFHQ-Wanni) under the guidance of Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces-Wanni with financial grants, allocated by the Wanni District Secretariat (DS), erected one more new house to a widow with two children.

After the poor family's miserable plight in Periyapandivirichchan, Madu area was noticed, the SFHQ-Wanni in consultation with the District Secretariat initiated the project for a permanent house for the family of Mrs Rasu Kaliamma on 9 September 2022.

The project was carried forward under the guidance of Major General Prasad Edirisinghe, General Officer Commanding, the 65 Infantry Division and Brigadier Namal Serasinghe, 653 Infantry Brigade Commander with the close supervision of Major W. D. A. Udayakumara, Commanding Officer of 24 Sri Lanka Gajaba Regiment. Technically-skilled soldiers of the 24 Gajaba Regiment providing engineering expertise and labour contributed to the full completion of the construction in less than 3 months.

In a simple ceremony last Thursday (Nov 17), headed by the Commander, Security Forces-Wanni and the General Officer Commanding, the 65 Infantry Division, together with the 653 Infantry Brigade Commander, Civil Affairs Officer of the 653 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer of the 24 Sri Lanka Gajaba Regiment and several other senior Officers, the new home was warmed and inaugurated after unveiling a plaque. The keys were symbolically delivered to the widow after Hindu religious rites were over in the presence of a gathering of relatives and villagers in the area.
