65 Division HQ Launches its Sinhala-Tamil Translation Project

The 65 Infantry Division HQ, expanding its gestures of reconciliation, harmony and co-existence among Tamil medium students in Manthai and Thunukkai areas commenced the 2nd phase of popularizing Sinhala literary works, translated into Tamil and distributed several hundreds of those translated copies among students in four schools on Wednesday (21).

The symbolic donation of those sets of books occurred at Vellankulam Government's Tamil Mixed School (GTMS) in Manthai where the conceptual architect of the project, Major General Prasad Edirisinghe, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 65 Infantry Division participated as the Chief Guest and handed over those book sets to the principal for onward distribution. Those translated prose and verse were mainly from the reputed scholar cum novelist, Dr Martin Wickremasinghe.

Initiated a project to share with learning in the area last month. The second stage of the same project commenced last Wednesday (Dec 21) with the presence of the initial project was initiated last month with the handover of the first sets of translated books to schools in the area. Inspired by the positive response of school authorities, the GOC decided to further expand the project as the 2nd Phase. The entire project was made possible with the patronage of Mr. Kalana Wakishta and the coordination of Brigadier Wasantha Bandara, Commander, 651 Infantry Brigade.

Students at Kaneshapuram Primary school, Vellankulam GTM school, Mallavi National school, Tharankandal Maha Vidyalaya, Thevampiddy Roman Catholic GTMS in Manthai West and Thunukkai areas are benefited due to this initiative, through which Wanni-based children for the first time enjoyed the access to Sinhala literary works.

Principals, teaching staff, officers, parents, and students were present during the main event.
