64 Division Turns 9 Years Old

64 Division Headquarters under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) giving prominence to sports events and military formalities marked its 9th anniversary on Saturday (16).

At the outset of the day’s itinerary, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 64 Division Headquarters received the salute in a Guard Turnout at the entrance to the premises in conformity with military traditions. A few minutes later, the GOC added memories to the commemoration by planting a ‘Naa’ sapling in the compound.

Typical of the occasion, the GOC afterwards spoke to All Rankers, setting out his plan of work in the forthcoming year and what needs to be done to promote the image of the Army and notions of reconciliation.

As a special feature of the day, finals of the GOC Challenge Trophy Cricket Tournament got underway at the 64 Division Headquarters ground between 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and 26 Gajaba Regiment (GR) cricket teams. VIR cricketers won the match and carried away the trophy.

Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, GOC, 64 Division awarded trophies and mementos to the winners in the tournament, the same evening.
