64 Division Challenge Trophy Volleyball Championship Goes to 13 SLNG

A Volleyball tournament was recently organized among Battalions in Mullaittivu area under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) by the 64 Division Headquarters under the guidance of Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 64 Division following directions given by Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu (SF-MLT) with the objective of uplifting sport skill among serving soldiers.

Preliminary rounds of the volleyball tournament were conducted under the league system with two categories with the participation of teams from Divisions and Brigades. 642 Brigade team qualified for the super seven rounds.

The second round matches were played among Battalions of the 64 Division. 12 Sri Lanka Light Infantry team and 13 (V) Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) team entered to the finals.

13 (V) SLNG team however emerged as winners in the tournament and received the 64 Division challenge trophy while 12 SLLI became the Runners-up.

Corporal K.N.S Kavisena of the 13 SLNG was awarded the Best Setter of the Tournament while Private V.M Chathuranga was named the Best Servicer of the Tournament, Lance Corporal K. Kumarasena was adjudged as the Best Individual Performer and Lance Corporal K Karunaratne was named as the Best All-Rounder in the tournament.

Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, SF-MLT as the Chief Guest gave away trophies and certificates to the winners in the tournament. Those teams posed for a group photograph before the presentation ceremony came to end.
