621 & 622 Brigade Troops on Army Day Launch Massive Tree Planting Drives

To coincide with the 72nd Army anniversary, 621 and 622 Brigade troops of the 62 Division of the Security Force HQ-Wanni launched a mammoth tree - planting and a sapling distribution programme on the Army Day (10th October) on the guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Major General Upali Gunasekara.

621 Brigade troops planted 200 Jack saplings and 100 coconut saplings inside the camp compound under the supervision of Brigadier Keerthi Perakum, Commander, 621 Brigade before the same troops and 14 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops jointly planted 50 coconut saplings inside Sri Gajaba Temple premises in the area. Around the same time, 200 coconut saplings were distributed among the villagers at Gajabapura. Ven Kurunegala Nandasara Thero, Chief Monk at Sri Gajaba Temple, Gajabapura, Brigadier Keerthi Perakum, Brigade Commander, 621 Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Jinesh Liyanagama, Commanding Officer, 14 (V) SLLI, Officers and Other Ranks and villagers participated in the event.

Meanwhile, 622 Brigade and 9 Gajaba Regiment troops distributed 150 saplings of Mango, Jack, Guava, Lime and Kumbuk varieties at Halabawewa Temple to the residents in the area in the presence of the chief incumbent, Grama Niladhari and civilians. Chief Thero, 20 Gajaba Regiment troops also distributed 100 saplings (Kohomba, Mee and Kumbuk) among civilians at Parana Medawachchiya GN division. Further, troops have also undertaken the responsibility to care for those saplings until they reach maturity.
