A brief ceremony held at the 62 Infantry Division Headquarters in Padavi-Sripura under the Security Force HQ-Wanni (SFHQ-Wanni) on Sunday (13) welcomed its new incoming General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Janaka Ranasinghe. amidst religious blessings and military formalities.
At the entrance, 14 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops presented a Guard Turnout and saluted him in accordance with military traditions after Brigade Commanders and Staff Officers at the Division HQ greeted the incoming GOC.
Later, he marked the assumption of duties amid religious blessings of the Maha Sangha by placing his signature on an official document.
As a gesture of memory, the new GOC was invited to plant a sapling in the camp compound and address All Ranks as a formality. An All Rank tea arrangement culminated the day's proceedings.
621, 622, and 623 Infantry Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers, and several other senior Officers were present on the occasion.
He succeeds Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi who has now been appointed the Commander, Security Forces-East.
