One more initiative of the Army in close collaboration with the Thalagala Sri Siddhartha Foundation of Ven. Thalagala Sri Sumanaratana Nayake Thero and Tan Ngak Buay & Kee Meng Lang Foundation of Singapore distributed a total of 150 dry ration packs among the poor, resident in the general area of Habaraduwa on Thursday (7).
14 (Volunteer) Gemunu Watch (14 (V)GW) troops of the 613 Brigade enthusiastically organized the distribution programme at Dharmika Vidyalaya in Habaraduwa in consultation with respective Grama Seva officials in the Habaraduwa Divisional Secretariat who screened the most deserving beneficiaries.
The distribution occasion was attended by the sponsor, Ven. Thalagala Sri Sumanaratana Nayake Thero, District Secretary for Galle, Divisional Secretary for Habaraduwa, Commanding Officer, 14 (V) GW, several Officers and Other Ranks of the 613 Brigade.
The relief project was launched under the guidance of Major General Mohan Ratnayake, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division and the 613 Brigade Commander, Colonel Indika Jayaweera. The Commanding Officer, 14 (V) GW, Lieutenant Colonel Asela Wijeratne closely supervised the distribution programme.
Thalagala Sri Siddhartha Foundation of Ven. Thalagala Sri Sumanaratana Nayake Thero and Tan Ngak Buay & Kee Meng Lang Foundation in the past couple of months have been generously engaged in distribution of relief packs among the worst-affected due to the economic crisis round the country through the coordination and organization, being done by respective Army establishments in the North, East, West and the South.
