Troops of the 8 Gemunu Watch (GW) under the 611 Infantry Brigade of the 61 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ-West coordinated the free distribution of dry rations among 120 low-income group families residing in Kuruwita Divisional Secretariat area in Ratnapura on Tuesday (14 Feb) after inviting those families to the Kuruwita Divisional Secretariat office.
The Thalagala Sri Siddhartha Foundation (Sri Lanka), led by Ven Thalagala Sumanarathana Nayaka Thero and the Tan Ngak Buay & Kee Meng Lang Foundation Limited of Singapore provided the sponsorship for the donation. These sponsors expect to distribute 1500 dry ration packs among needy people living in Ratnapura District in the future.
All the beneficiaries were selected in close collaboration with respective Grama Niladhari officials in the areas.
Necessary arrangements for this programme were properly coordinated under the guidance of the Commander, 611 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Sujeewa Eragoda on the instructions of the Commander, Security Forces-West, Major General Deepal Pussella.
The General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division, Major General Udaya Herath, joined the distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Commander, 611 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Sujeewa Eragoda. The Commanding Officer, 8 GW, Officers, Other Ranks and several government officials were present at the location along with members of the Maha Sangha of the donor agency.
