Troops of the 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (8 SLSR) of the 611 Infantry Brigade took prompt action to douse a fire that broke out at a footwear shop in the heart of Kegalle town on Tuesday (Dec 27) in collaboration with firemen of the Fire Brigades in Kandy and Kurunegala along with Kegalle Police personnel.
As soon as the troops received the information, one officer and 35 other ranks rushed to the location and began dousing the fire that was fast spreading within a few hours. Troops succeeded in containing the spread of the fire into adjoining buildings.
The operation was conducted on the directions given by Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander Security Forces - West and Major General Udaya Herath, General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division while Brigadier Sujeewa Eragoda, Commander, 611 Brigade, and Major A.A Ekanayake, Commanding Officer, 8 SLSR closely supervised the troops on the ground.
