61 Infantry Division HQ Ensures Continued Education for Grade 5 School Achiever in Colombo

The eldest son of a low-income family in Ahungalla area despite the financial hardships, being faced by his family scored an impressive 188 marks in the Grade-5 scholarship examination - 2022 and had the privilege of finding a place for his higher studies at Colombo Royal College, but financial constraints posed a setback and the child was in a dilemma as to how he could proceed with studies in Colombo.

Accordingly, the aforesaid child's parents reached the Civil Affairs Officer of the 61 Infantry Division requesting some kind of assistance for their child’s continued education.

As per the guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Major General H.M.U.Herath RWP RSP VSV USP Hdmc psc, the 61 Infantry Division HQ turned to Mr. Prasad Lokubalasuriya, an old boy of the Colombo Royal College and the Chief Organizer of 'Atha-Hitha Foundation’, dedicated to support the civilians in need of livelihood assistance.

Mr. Prasad Lokubalasuriya on hearing of this need awarded Rs. 30,000/= for the expenses of the child while the General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division, concerned about this humanitarian need also personally pocketed out a share of his own money towards the same purpose and assured the parents of their child's continued higher education.

Recognizing the potential of this bright young student for studies and his future progression, the 61 Infantry Division HQ with a couple of philanthropists intervened to implement a suitable programme for his future education from Grade 6 until he enters the university education.
