Major General Udaya Herath assumed duties as 17th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 61 Division of the Security Force HQ-West on 14 November during a simple ceremony at the Divisional Headquarters in Boossa.
At the entrance, the incoming GOC reviewed the Guard Turnout, presented by 14 Gemunu Watch troops on arrival at the Headquarters premises.
Subsequently, the newly-appointed GOC assumed office, amid chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ of Buddhist monks by leaving his signature for an official document in order to signify the acceptance of the new office.
In line with formalities, the new GOC planted a sapling, prior to the formal troop address where he expressed his vision. 611 and 612 Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers and Other Ranks participated in the day’s event.
He succeeds Major General Mohan Rathnayake who has now been appointed as Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Central.
