61 Division's New GOC Visits His Troops

The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 61 Infantry Division, Major General Udaya Herath, conducted his maiden visit to the 611 Infantry Brigade and 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (8 SLSR) co-located at Beragala, Kegalle last Wednesday (Dec 07) upon the invitation of Brigadier Sujeewa Aragoda, Brigade Commander, 611 Infantry Brigade.

The protagonist was warmly welcomed by the Brigade Commander, 611 Infantry Brigade, and Major A. A Ekanayake, Commanding Officer of 8 SLSR and presented with a smart drive pass by the 8 SLSR troops.

The GOC was invited to plant a sapling in the premises as a symbol of memory, followed by a comprehensive briefing made by Brigade Staff officers, and the Commanding Officer of the 8 SLSR.

Later, the GOC visited the Brigade premises and co-located at 8 SLSR premises reaching the end of the day. Refreshments at the Officers’ Mess culminated the series of events. Major H. M. R Hennayake, Commanding Officer, 8 Sri Lanka Gemunu Watch, Officers and other ranks were present at the event.

Meanwhile, the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 61 Infantry Division, Major General Udaya Herath called at the 613 Infantry Brigade HQ on 15 December where the 613 Bridge Commander presented a comprehensive briefing.
