The 61 Division's new General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Swarna Bothota assumed duties on Tuesday (21) at the 61 Division Headquarters in Boossa.
A formal Guard Turnout saluted the new GOC upon his arrival at the Division Headquarters premises by the troops of 14 (V) Gemunu Watch. Afterwards, amid religious blessings, he placed his signature for an official document and symbolized the acceptance of his new office.
Later, he was invited to plant a sapling in the premises as a symbol of memory. After a while, he addressed all ranks and explained his vision for duties and roles in the 61 Division.
Brigade Commanders of the 611, 612 and 613 Brigades, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks serving under the 61 Division were associated with the occasion.
Major General Swarna Bothota was the Commandant at the Army War College in Buttala before taking over this appointment.
