Troops of 11 (volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) under command to the 231 Brigade of the 23 Division under the Security Force HQ–East with patronage given by a social service activist gave away nutrients, dry ration packs and baby care equipments to some 60 pregnant women after inviting them to the Mangalagama temple in Batticaloa on Wednesday (2).
Major General Lal Chandrasiri, Commander, Security Forces-East at the invitation of the 23 Division and the 231 Brigade attended the distribution as the Chief Guest.
The sponsorship for the project was extended by Ms Dulanji Chamalka, a lecturer on Psychology and the selection of those beneficiaries had been done in consultation with Grama Niladhari (state officials) of the 135/A Gemunupura, based on their living conditions.
Few senior officers, including the General Officer Commanding, 23 Division, 231 Brigade Commander and the Commanding Officer 11 (v) SLSR, together with several Other Ranks attended the event.
