59 Div New Year Arrangements Draw Large Crowds

59 Division troops adding their share to the annual Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival had their own commemorative event, organized at Mulliyaveli Vidyananda College grounds in Mullaittivu on Wednesday (18).

The typical 'Soorya Mangallaya' that brings about the birth of new hopes and best wishes was arranged on the directions of Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu (SF-MLT) with the direct supervision of Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 59 Division.

The mega event, attended by Ms Rupawathi Kethishwaran, District Secretary for Mullaittivu, Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, SF-MLT, Major General H.R.M Fernando, GOC, 68 Division, Major General C.S Etipola, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - Mullaittivu, Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya, GOC, 59 Division, Mr Wasantha Kandewatta, Superintendent of Police at Mullaittivu Police station, state officials, Officers, Other Rankers and a large gathering of civilians in Kilinochchi, was aimed at further promoting spirits of goodwill, reconciliation, ethnic harmony and peaceful co-existence.

The celebration, comprised of motorbike and dog shows, folk dances, tugs of war, folk games, dancing features and a musical entertainment that ran into late night, had a marathon run during morning hours with the participation of more than 150 participants, including Mullaittivu civilians.

Prizes to the winners were awarded by the District Secretary for Mullaittivu, Commander-SF Mulllaittivu and a few other distinguished guests towards the end of the day's games and events.
