To be in line with the government's 'Vaccination Week', 58 Division troops under command to the 1 Corps HQ at Kilinochchi contributed to the project by targeting the civilians, resident in areas served by 58 Division, 581 Brigade, 582 Brigade, and 583 Brigade troops across the country on Saturday (29).
With the coordination of respective Regional Medical Officers of Health offices, vaccination centres were established at Nawagaththegama (58 Division) where 841 civilians were vaccinated. Kotagala area served by 581 Brigade troops saw 137 persons receiving vaccination doses while 179 persons in Horana area, served by 582 Brigade troops received those vaccinations. 571 persons were vaccinated by 1 SLLI troops in Wadduwa and the troops of the 583 Brigade vaccinated 366 persons in Kurunegala, served by 583 Brigade troops.
The vaccination programme was initiated following directions of the Commander 1 Corps and under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding 58 Division. Mobile public awareness announcements were also made prior to commencement of the vaccination projects.
