57th Army Athletic Championship Inaugurated

The 57th Army Athletic Championship - 2021 got to a start this morning (22) at the Sugathadasa Stadium during a formal ceremony, attended by Major General Priyantha Perera, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army as the Chief Guest.

A total of 52 men and women’s athletic events, competed by hundreds of Army athletes, belonging to all Regiments would continue till Friday (26) after selecting the best of the best in the preliminary rounds, held at Regimental Centres.

The day’s Chief Guest was welcomed by Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, Chairman, Army Athletic Committee and Commander, Security Forces - 1 Corps, together with few Senior Officers at the venue soon after his arrival.

Adhering to COVID-19 health guidelines, the Championship would finally select those who could qualify for the national pool at the end.

Major General Deapal Pussella, Adjutant General, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, Security Forces - West, Brigadier Udaya Kumara, Director Personnel and Administration, Brigadier Nalin Bandarnayake, Director Sports, Center Commandants and Senior Officers were also associated with the day’s inaugural occasion.
