56 Infantry Division organized a traditional New Year Festival to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on 20 April 2024 at Public Ground Vavuniya with the participation of a large crowd.
The festival featured traditional aesthetic events and various games such as cycle races, marathon races, selection of the ‘Avurudu Kumara and Kumari,’ tug of war, pillow fighting, kolam rata drawing competition, eye-placing on the elephant, bun eating, coconut-scraping, playing musical chairs, lime balancing race, and many other Sinhala and Tamil traditional games.
The evening culminated in a musical show, featuring performances by the 'Agnee' music band and other artists. This event has been planned and executed under the direction and guidance of Commander Security Force - Wanni, Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu and event has conducted by supervision on General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division, Major General S Kasturimudali RSP ndc psc.
The District Secretary of Vavuniya, Deputy Inspector General of Police Vavuniya, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks participated in the event.
