Major General Manjula Kariyawasam assumed office as the 27th General Officer Commanding of the 56 Division of the Security Force HQ – Wanni on Tuesday (30) at the 56 Division HQ in Kokeliya,Vavuniya.
The day's inauguration started after the offering of alms to members of the Maha Sangha of the Purana Raja Maha Vihara Temple in Madukanda. Followed by religious observances, he placed his signature on a formal document in the presence of Commanders of 561,562, 563 Brigades and all staff Officers of the 56 Division Headquarters and symbolized his acceptance.
A Guard Turnout at the entrance greeted the incoming GOC before he was welcomed by the senior officers. A sapling planting and group photographs marked the occasion. He also addressed the troops and set out his vision for the 56 Division HQ.
He succeeded Major General Saman Liyanage who is going to retired soon. Major General Manjula Kariyawasam was the Director, Staff Duties at the Army Headquarters in Battaramulla before his new appointment.
