56 Division Conducts a Series of Welfare Projects in Vavuniya

A series of welfare and community development activities were organized by the 56 Division of the Sri Lanka Army recently in Vavuniya. These activities patronized by the General Officer Commanding 56 Division Brigadier N. A. P. C. Napagoda coincided with the 14th Anniversary of Divisions existence.

A blood donation campaign was conducted at the Division headquarters in which 165 Officers and soldiers serving in 56 Division area donated blood. The soldiers also cleaned Vavuniya hospital area and offered lunch for the inmates of the orphanage at Etambagaskada Saddammarama Temple in Vavuniya.

A large number of sporting events were also organized by the soldiers of 56 Division in view to improve the Civil-Military relationship. Villages living in the area together with the soldiers participated in these events which included Volleyball, Football, Cricket, Badminton, Tug-of-War, etc.

With the contribution of the entrepreneurs and the civil population of the area 56 Division organized a Musical Show for the entertainment of the village community, which was lacking for years and years due to the terrorist activities of the area. A lineup of renowned artists glittered the show with their performances. Security Forces Commander Wanni Major General A. K. S. Perera graced the occasion as the Chief Guest accompanied by a large gathering of senior officers and soldiers of the army.
