Adding their share to the commemoration of the 74th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, the 553 Infantry Brigade troops of the 55 Infantry Division in Vishwamadu warmed their newly-constructed Warrant Officers' and Sergeants' Mess on Saturday (14 October 2023).
This opening marks a substantial improvement to the facilities for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers of the Brigade since the former Mess building remained not properly completed. Brigadier G.S.K Perera RSP, the Commander, 553 Infantry Brigade initiated the transformation and improvements to the structure under the guidance of Major General R.K.N.C Jayawardena RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna.
In addition, the foundation stone-laying for construction of a new lecture hall in the compound took place on the same day. It is expected to accommodate training modules of operational and administrative aspects of the Brigade. Both projects were sponsored by All Ranks of the 553 Infantry Brigade
The opening ceremony of the mess and the foundation-stone laying was attended by Major General R.K.N.C Jayawardena RSP ndc as the Chief Guest for the occasion. Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, and distinguished guests participated in the ceremonies.
