542 Infantry Brigade Initiates 'Drug Addiction & Prevention' Project for Teachers

In an attempt to educate dangers of narcotics, 542 Infantry Brigade troops of the 54 Infantry Division during one more awareness programme on ‘Drug Addiction and Prevention,’ meant for school teachers and troops got underway in Mannar on 25 July 2023 at 10 (v) Gemunu Watch camp.

It was organized by the troops with the assistance of the Regional Director of Health Services in Mannar and was attended by 542 Infantry Brigade troops and 50 teachers representing every school in Mannar District and staff at Deputy Director of Zonal Education office. The programme was conducted by a psychologist who also touched on 'drug addiction, side-effects of drugs and family disputes'. It also highlighted the importance of prevention of children from falling into this social menace.

The project was launched under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division, Major General G.W.A Seneviratne USP psc and the Commander of the 542 Infantry Brigade, Colonel T.L.M Chandrasekara RWP psc.

The Civil Affairs Officer of the 542 Infantry Brigade, Major M.V Fernando coordinated the programme.
