541 Infantry Brigade Troops Spending Own Money Erect New Bathroom to Ex-LTTE Combatant

12 (V) Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) troops of the 541 Infantry Brigade under the 54 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni, showing their boundless compassion and humanitarian virtues of forgiveness built a much-needed bathroom with all accessories for an ex-LTTE combatant, spending their own cash, and vested it with him on Sunday (25) as a Christmas gift.

The former LTTE combatant, Mr Xavier Anthony Silvester from Mannar - Mundampiddi area turned disabled when he was fighting against military troops during the peak of the offensives against LTTE terrorism before May 2009. However, the physically-handicapped ex-combatant with his family was using a poorly-erected sanitary facility when the troops noticed his disability and the requirement a few weeks ago.

On being informed, Brigadier Dasantha Munasinghe, Commander 541 Infantry Brigade gave the green light for the well-intended project and instructed the 12 (V) SLA troops to go ahead with the project with their technical expertise after All Ranks volunteered to contribute to the construction of the new bathroom to match with his physical disability. A few philanthropists in his neighbourhood also supported the Army gesture with raw materials.

Brigadier Dasantha Munasinghe on Christmas day visited the beneficiary and vested the new bathroom facility with him along with a cash gift plus a dry ration packet.
