54 Division troops arrested 1000 kg of smuggled raw turmeric with two suspects during morning hours on 11 August 2021 while they were trying to transport the turmeric haul in a Bolero Cab via the Army Roadblock, manned by 15 (V) GW troops along Medawachchiya-Mannar road (A 14).
Its market value has been estimated approximately at about Rs 6 mn and the stock was believed to have been smuggled from India.
The arrested turmeric and suspects with the vehicle were handed over to the Madu Police station for further investigations.
Troops under command to the 54 Division, have been very active in curbing illegal activities in the Mannar District specially deterring the smuggling of turmeric and Kerala Cannabis from other countries.
