Coinciding with the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Security Force HQ-Wanni (SFHQ-Wanni), the 62 Infantry Division troops took steps to organize an Inter-Division Basketball Tournament among Wanni troops in close coordination with 21, 54, 56 and 65 Infantry Divisions got underway at the SFHQ-Wanni sports complex in Vavuniya during Feb 24-25.
The preliminary rounds of the matches were competed by all seven teams of the Divisions, including the basketball players of the Forward Maintenance Area - North Central and the SFHQ-Wanni. During the final tussle, the 54 Infantry Division vied for the trophy with the 65 Infantry Division and secured the championship scoring 37 against 36 after a close tussel.
Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander, SF-Wanni graced the finals as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates and trophies to the winners and participants. Major General Janaka Ranasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 62 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks with a large crowd of spectators witnessed the tournament.
