513 Brigade Continues its Support to Female Cricketer by Erecting New Home

The Security Force HQ-Jaffna, in an attempt to further inspire the growth of sports talents of the teenager, Christiga Selvarasa of Chulipuram Victoria College in Jaffna who has now been selected to the under-19 female cricket team of Sri Lanka, has offered its manpower, technical and engineering skills for construction of a new house to her family in collaboration with Nallur-based Thiyahie Charitable Trust (TCT).

16 Gemunu Watch troops of the 513 Brigade of the 51 Division have undertaken the project to erect the new home as an appreciative gesture of her achievements as a school-aged female cricketer on the directions given by Major General K.A.A Udaya Kumara, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division and Colonel M Rizvi Razick, 513 Brigade Commander with the blessings of Major General Chandana Wijayasundera, Commander, Security Forces -Jaffna.

The overseas-based TCT Chairman, Mr Vamadevan Thiyagendran (Thiyahie) who has been an ardent supporter of the community-oriented projects of the Army, in an impressive gesture of goodwill and understanding, provided financial incentives for construction of the new house to this girl who brought fame. It was the 513 Brigade Commander, Colonel Rizvi Razick with the blessings of Major General Udaya Kumara, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 51 Division and the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna a few months back, took the initiative of finding a sponsor to help her proceed with sustained cricket training with a monthly allocation of Rs 5000/= by way of a scholarship, given by an overseas-based donor because of her economic hardships.

On Friday (16), the General Officer Commanding 51 Division, together with the sponsor and 513 Brigade Commander laid foundation stones for erection of the home in Chullipurama, amidst Hindu religious blessings and traditions. After the foundation-laying ceremony, the General Officer Commanding 51 Division provided a cash donation to the deserving family of the budding sports star.
