51 Infantry Division's Anniversary Brings Bonanza to Students & Civilians in Jaffna

The 28th Anniversary of the 51 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna was marked in a series of community-oriented events on 12 September 2023.

Accordingly, with the financial assistance provided by Fonterra Company Ltd, the Army troops attached to the 51 Infantry Division donated dry ration packs, each worth Rs 5000/- to 100 underprivileged families residing in Selvapuram and Yogapuram areas in the peninsula.

In addition, the Army troops with sponsors' support offered Rs 100,000/= each to Palaly North GTM School, Ponnale Varadharaja Perumal School, Sangarathei Sinnamma School and Karthikeya School for development of their infrastructure facilities as one more segment of their anniversary programmes. During those events, 200 students who participated in the event at Palaly North GTM School were entertained to refreshments.

Major General S.W. B Welagedara RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding of the 51 Infantry Division as the Chief Guest, together with Director, Fonterra Company, Mr. Nimal Gamage joined those anniversary gestures.

The Civil Affairs Officer of the 51 Infantry Division, Lieutenant Colonel D Anas Ahamed coordinated the event.

This community-oriented programme was also attended by Overlooking Commander, 511 Infantry Brigade, Colonel W.D.K.T Perera RWP RSP and the Commanding Officer of 9 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Major Nimantha Jayathilaka. Principals and teachers praised the Army for those initiatives.
