In order to relieve economic burdens of low-income group families, resident in Uduvil area in the Jaffna peninsula, troops of the 51 Infantry Division with the financial support of the overseas-based military veteran, Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Rtd) distributed 50 free dry ration packets among villagers on Wednesday (6 Sept).
The guidance of Major General S.W.B Welagedara RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division and the coordinated supervision of the Civil Affairs Officer of the 51 Infantry Division, Lieutenant Colonel D.A Ahamed RSP enabled the troops to successfully complete the project with the assistance of Other Ranks.
Colonel W.S.R Kumara, Colonel Coordination of the 51 Infantry Division and the Commanding Officer of the 9 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry were also present at the occasion.
Each dry ration pack, worth about Rs 5000/= contained rice Rice, Dhal, Potatoes, Milk Powder, Salt, Chilli powder and other essential ingredients.
